Vicky Martinez: A San Gabriel Valley Leader on Transportation Policy

Shortly after being elected, Councilwoman Martinez began to promote and implement the El Monte Health and Wellness campaign. As part of her vision to have more healthy local residents, she proposed expanding bike ridership in the city. Many residents loved the idea. But El Monte lacked safe bike routes. Councilwoman Martinez worked closely with Bike SGV and her fellow city council members to devise a plan to create safe bike lanes. Today, those bike lanes on Romona Blvd. and Tyler Street safely connect to the Metro Transit Center, the Community Center, the Senior Center, the Aquatic Center, Arceo Park, El Monte High School and the neighboring City of South El Monte.
